The Skjørlægda circut
From the parking lot, follow the steep signposted trail towards Skjørlægda and Fjellgården, a mountain farm abandoned in 1919.
The farmhouse itself is still preserved, and the pastoral is enhanced by the hay-fields that are still cut regularly by students at the local agricultural school. After the 2.2 km walk to this farm you are also rewarded to a great view of Visttindan. The mountain farm is open, and if you are not too choosy you can have free accommodation here. You have the convenience of a propane-fuelled hotplate, and firewood is available in case you wish to light the woodstove.
When you are ready, continue on the trail from the old mountain farm. About 500 metres after passing a cabin, turn southwest; this trail towards Tåletjønna is scarcely visible. A suspension bridge takes you across Fjellskardelva river. Continue southward – largely without a trail – to Sæterskardhytta cabin, which is about 4 km from the mountain farm. The cabin is unlocked and offers shelter for the night.
From the cabin, cross the creek called Sæterskardbekken, continuing south mostly without a trail towards the bridge across Finnbruforsen falls and Storvasselva river. On the other side, turn eastward and cross the marshlands. Soon you will connect with a visible trail, and then after another, reach Litlvasshytta, a cabin that can be rented from the local fishing and hunting association. The nearby Litlvatnet and Storvatnet lakes offer great fishing.
Alternatively, when you connect with the trail you can follow it back to the parking lot at Sandvikbakken. The parking lot is about 7 km from Litlvasshytta cabin, along a visible trail.
Accommodation is also available at Holmen farm in Eiterådalen.
How to get here
From Mosjøen, drive highway E6 towards the airport, but continue further south for a total of 16 km, following the signs for Eiterådal. After about 10 km you arrive at parking a parking lot with an information board and toilets.
