From the parking area, follow the signposted trail for 4 km to Litlskardvatnet lake. The cairn markers end at the lake. Continue south towards Måsskardet pass. It is easiest to cross the Velfjordskardelva river before it joins Måsskardelva. There is a challenging willow thicket at the bottom of Måsskardet, but after that you have easy hiking in the valley. Note that there are two cairn-marked routes up to Måsskardvatnan lake, one towards the tarn at elevation 734 m, the other to the tarn at 775 m. Continue southwards towards Elgviddvatnet lake.
There are many nice spots to pitch a tent in the valley of Måsskarddalen and by Elgviddevatnet lake. Holmen farm offers accommodation.
How to get here
From Mosjøen, drive highway E6 towards the airport but continue south following the signs for Eiterådal for a total of 16 km. At Holmen farm, continue on the forest road for almost 2 km, crossing the river at the bridge that is signposted to Sirijorda and Langskardneset. After another 3 km, cross back over the river (the sign says Sirijorda), and turn right at the next crossroads. You will soon reach the parking area.
