Auslia Mountain Farm
Visit the old mountain farm Auslia.
To visit the old mountain farm Auslia, follow the marked path from the express boat quay at Ausen.
Your walk starts from the quay in Ausen and the route is clearly marked. Take the gravel road to the uppermost house in Ausen, before continuing on the trail headed south. The gradual climb to Klaven is the steepest part of the trail. From Klaven there is a great view of Strandbukta cove and Ausen, with the mountains of Vevelstadfjellene to the south. The trail continues south over a small marsh, then up through the woods to Auslia mountain farm.
This trail was an old thoroughfare for the people who lived at Auslia. Eva Ausli became renowned for baking the best krinalefser, which were sold throughout the country. This required her husband Hilovard to make many trips carrying heavy loads of flour and sugar up to their mountain farm, and carrying as many lefser as he could down to Ausen village and to the steamship quay.
Today Auslia is owned by the Municipality of Vevelstad and offers accommodation to travellers.
